COTTAGES
The cottages are refreshed by the cooling monsoon breezes that blow gently off the Indian Ocean all year round, and if you find it a little too warm one can make use of the high speed fans. All cottages overlook the beautiful grounds and vast expanses of the azure Indian Ocean beyond.
All guests will enjoy their privacy and spectacular panoramas from their own private verandas. The traditional Swahili style of our cottages with carved doors and high mukuti (coconut thatch) roofs is complimented by exclusively handcrafted Swahili furniture with ornate carvings and rich decoration; some of which was lovingly restored and some specially made by the local craftsmen.
All the cottages are spacious with large decked verandas you can step on to from both the room and the bathroom. All cottages are en-suite with double wash basins, double showers and uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean from wherever you are! Our honeymoon cottage has a king size bath tub to add romance to your occasion.
POOL
Our fresh water swimming pool offers a great way to refresh or you can simply laze on your sun-bed listening to the roar of the ocean, reading your book while sipping on a cocktail prepared to your taste!
GROUNDS
You can take a leisurely stroll in our gardens and along the ocean front. The views of the Indian Ocean and the fresh clean air will revitalize your spirit!
Our team of gardeners and landscape designer worked tirelessly to convert the overgrown bush and the millions of jagged rocks and stones which we found when we bought the land, into a beautiful tropical garden with manicured lawns and exotic. We have an abundant variety of animal, bird and butterfly species which chose to frequent our grounds. These include the timid bush babies, dik-diks, wild pigs, monitor lizards, genet cats, magnificent fish-eagles, beautiful carmine and white throated bee eaters, kingfishers, herons, storks, ever busy night jars, and the list goes on.
BEACH, REEF & CAVE
Our beach is very secluded and we choose to share it only with the fishermen who bring their fresh catch to us daily. Fine white sand, refreshing waters of the Indian Ocean, a beautiful reef with a great variety of live shells, starfish, corals and tropical fish - these are only a few things that you will enjoy whilst snorkeling outside Tijara.
We are occasionally visited by dolphins and whales which can be seen swimming and frolicking outside our reef; you can also watch turtles swim close to our beach during May/June without the need for you to take a deep sea dive. A large variety of tropical fish will share the waters with you while you snorkel.
If you feel lazy you can simply lie on the beach close your eyes and enjoy the sounds of the ocean or find a cool coral rock pool to immerse yourself in to take the heat out of your day.
For those feeling energetic we recommend a short walk to the most magnificent cave, which apart from being amazing has historical value. The legend says that it is the famous Black Jack's Cave which was used during the time of slave trading. The cave has many chambers with shafts of light illuminating it within; the high tide comes in twice a day and creates intricate patterns on the floor - what a pleasure to spend your time exploring!
VIEWS
At Tijara you will find the most spectacular breathtaking views, gentle waves will caress your feet, the moon will rise from the ocean, and the stars will shine as you have never seen them! We are sure that you will fall in love with Tijara Beach as we did upon our first visit.
